Credit card debt

Credit card debt is a much discussed topic in the commercial and social circles. A big section of the population has been bit by this bug called credit card debt. Cant blame them much; as such, its pretty easy to fall prey to this bug.

The main reason behind so many credit card casualties (rather credit card debt related casualties) is that many people dont understand the concept of credit cards properly. They treat credit card as free money that is never to be returned. Thus all the discipline, which would otherwise have been exercised with spending hard-earned money, goes for a toss. That means people overspend and get into credit card debt. They keep spending till they reach the credit limit on their credit card. Some people go to the extent of treating that like a game and consider it a defeat (or consider their credit card under utilised) if they dont hit the credit limit quick enough. These unnecessary spends result in a situation where they are not able to payback their credit card bills and end up paying interest on the amount they owe. This keeps building up their credit card debt and they soon find that the interest component has become a regular feature in their monthly expenses and it is there even if they spend nothing on their credit card. That is credit card debt on the prowl. Soon they find that their current credit card can no longer handle their needs and start looking to get another credit card. With the new power of credit, they let themselves loose again and follow a shop till you drop routine. Soon the credit limit of the new credit card is reached too and they again default on payments. This is how credit card debt builds. Soon they learn about credit card debt consolidation and other credit card debt elimination techniques. They are quick to grab such credit card debt reduction techniques, but thats not because they are serious about reducing their credit card debt but because of the attractive low APR offers. As if it were booty, they again get back to building up their credit card debt. All the while they are spoiling their credit card rating and they soon realise that no one is ready to lend them money because of their credit history. They can only get a secured credit card now (where you first deposit money into your credit account and then only you get the privilege of spending it (50-100% of it) using their credit card. Credit card debt collection agencies, auction of their goods and bankruptcy is the next thing that hits them and their dream run is blown away in a moment.

The moral of the story Understand the concept of credit cards and treat credit card debt with all seriousness.

Consolidate Credit Card Debt The Easy Way – Expert Tips And Advice

If you’ve just started looking into consolidating credit card debt, this article will give you some helpful tips and advice for getting started. Now, credit card debt consolidation isn’t always the best route to take, but in many instances it can be extremely helpful in getting a handle on out of control finances.

So, why would anyone want to consolidate their creditcards?

First of all, by consolidating outstanding credit card balances it allows you to get out from under high interest rates and dramatically cut your costs. Obviously, if you’re not able to get a better interest rate on your consolidation loan than you are receiving on your credit cards, turn and run.

Second of all, it’s much easier in my opinion to pay one bill each month instead of several. Juggling credit card statements and making sure that you’re making payments on time to all of them can be a task for sure. Consolidation makes things simple.

Sound good so far? If so, you’ll need to begin searching for a credit card consolidation company to deal with. This step requires some time on your part as there are many companies which offer this service. As it goes in any industry, some are good – some are bad. Taking the time to fully research a credit card consolidation company prior to doing business with them is a must and a step that you certainly should not take lightly.

Let’s face it. In today’s day and age when getting a credit card is so easy a caveman can do it, it’s not surprising that many fall into the trap of using their cards irresponsibly. More so now than ever, people are finding themselves buried deep in piles of credit card bills – paying excessive interest rates on their balances and drowning in debt.

If this situation sounds familiar, credit card debt consolidation might just be the answer you’ve been looking for to get back on your feet. Hopefully this article has given you some food for thought and a little bit of hope for climbing out of debt.

Strange though it may sound a credit card can be a useful tool in controlling debt. The properly chosen credit card can, in fact, be used to consolidate debt. There are several features to look for though if you plan to use a credit card in this manner. As is always the case before you scrutinize any credit card option, you should first have a clear understanding of your credit situation.

Whenever you are approaching a decision about your credit it is of primary importance to pull your credit report. The government has mandated that all individuals be allowed an annual free credit report. When accessing this report make sure that you have gone to a truly free credit report site. Some companies lure people into their sites by advertising a free credit report and then ask for credit card information. Free credit reports are available from such sites but if you have supplied them with credit card information you may find that your card will be billed thirty days later for a credit report update. The charges will continue ever thirty days or so after the initial billing until you have cancelled the service. The best idea is not to give out any billing information in order to receive your free report.

Get a report from each of the three credit reporting agencies (Experian, Trans Union and Equifax). When you ask for your report the site will also offer to send a credit score (FICO score) for a small additional fee; knowing your FICO is also beneficial and generally worth the nominal cost. Again, read the fine print and be careful not to set up any ongoing transactions.

After receiving the three reports analyze them carefully. You are unique but your name may not be. Make sure all the credit card bills are actually yours. Also check to make sure your social security number is listed correctly. Social security numbers are keyed in by hand and thus subject to error. One digit misplaced can give you someone elses derogatory credit. Report any errors to the agencies. Make the report to all three agencies as they do not share information.

Now you have a list of all the revolving credit card debt that you owe, the balances and contact information. This is the money owed that may be ripe to consolidate on one credit card. Contact the creditors and find out what the current interest rate is on each card and if there are any programs which would allow you to reduce that rate. Let the companies know you are actively shopping for alternatives to your current rates. Customers in good standing with their credit card companies, customers with high FICO scores and customers who regularly charge and make their payments are valued by credit card companies. It may be that you will be offered incentives to retain their cards. Also, inquire about any balance transfer opportunities or other programs such as frequent flier miles.

Now you are going to design your own program to consolidate credit card debt. Compile a list of all the companies with columns comparing the like features: Interest rates, penalties, incentives, credit limits. When choosing which company to use to consolidate your credit cards, look at all the features not just the interest rates. Narrow down the options to two or three cards. Speak with company representatives. It may be possible to negotiate even better terms.

Once you have chosen an institution with which to consolidate credit card debt, follow through and transfer as many of your outstanding balances as possible to that one card. Adjust your credit card behavior and be disciplined about your use of credit. Cut up all the other cards. You may even wish to close all accounts other than one for emergencies. Dont carry the two remaining cards in your wallet. Remember, charge cards are nice as long as you, not the card, are in charge.

Word Count:Article Body:
Do you worry about reducing your debt? If yes then why are so many people only paying the minimum payment on their credit cards? Is it because they think if they keep paying the minimum payment every month it will pay itself off within months? Well that is not the case and we have to sort this problem out and fast.

Credit card companies love the fact they we only pay the minimum payment every month. Why? because they are raking it in while the interest rates are crippling us. So what started out as a small credit card bill could escalate into thousands of pounds. Say your credit card statement arrives your balance is 2000 the minimum payment is 40 which is 2% of your balance, if you keep paying just the minimum payment its the interest that most of your 40 is going to and not much to your bill.

The minimum re-payments have dropped as the credit card companies and banks originally charged 10%, but they found that customers where paying their debt back a lot quicker with the 10%. So the way for them to get more interest out of us was for them to reduce the percentage of the minimum payment, making us think that they where helping us but in fact they where just getting more money from us by adding on more interest, as it will take longer for us to pay of the credit card bills.

So what to do if you find yourself in this situation:

Stop using your credit card, better still cut it up (in case you get tempted) Sit down and workout how much more you can pay than the minimum payment theyre asking for, once you have worked out how much stick to it even when you see the minimum payments going down dont be tempted to reduce your payment or your be back to square one.

If you have more than one credit card the best way to reduce your debt is once again stop using them. Work out which one has the highest interest rate and make the highest payment to that card. Keep paying the minimum payment on your other cards and once the card with the highest interest rate is paid off, go to the next highest card and so on until all your cards are paid off.

You may have to tighten your belt in for a while but this will save you a lot of money in the long run. Yes we all need credit cards and if you use them properly they are fine, but if you cannot afford to pay them off at the end of the month then this is when you get yourself into all sorts of trouble.

Word Count:Article Body:
Properly every one of us has some sort of credit card debt, but when do we know that its spiralling out of control? Well one way is if youre pay more than 15% of your monthly salary to your credit card bills then start to worry, but a worse way of dealing with this is borrowing cash from one credit card to pay another, this will only put you into more debt.
If a light comes on in your head after reading the start of this article then its time to sit up and take some action, dont think for a minute you are the only one dealing with credit card debt, almost 40% of credit card holders are in this position why! I will tell you minimum payments.

Yep-minimum payments if you only pay the minimum payment on your monthly balance, what once was a small credit card bill will turn into a very costly one youll end up paying back thousands, and will take years to clear.

How can I help myself sort out this problem!

Well if you have more than one credit card and you pay the minimum payment on them all, then this is what to do get the credit card with the highest APR and pay the most to this card, keep paying the minimum payment to the rest of your cards once the credit card with the highest APR is cleared go on to the next highest APR and so on until all the credit cards are paid off.

Another way to help is balance transfer deals try switching your card with one that has this on offer, they also offer 0% interest free period for 6-9 months great way to save some money.

People with only one credit card try not to use your card if thats not possible monitor what you spend youll be amazed at the silly things you put on your credit card, including groceries, petrol, and nights-out youll be amazed at how much interest is added on. People tend to forget about money I agree that credit cards are handy but they dont have to be used all the time, I guarantee if you monitor what you spend for a few months you will see the difference.

I know these things sound easy but its amazing how many people just use their plastic friend to pay for everything, and really when you sit down and think it really is just common sense, hopefully following these simple steps will get you back on track.

5 Tips To Help You Deal With Credit Card Debt

Do you tend to be late in paying your credit card bills? Is your pile of notices from creditors getting higher and higher? Do you fear you might lose your properties because you can’t pay off your credit card debts?

Being in deep credit card debt is not a thing that can be easily brushed off or treated lightly. Anyone who’s been in this situation knows how terrible it feels. However, if you ever find yourself in deep credit card debt, there are things you can do to make your financial situation not worse that it already is.

Tip #1: Budget right away.

Don’t wait until you lose your house. As soon as you find yourself in a bad financial situation, make a budget right away. How much is your income? Does it cover your expenditures? Assess your situation and know which expenditures are vital and which are not. Do you really need to eat out three times a week? Do you truly need to have all the bells and whistles that come with your cellphone plan? Must you shop for clothes every week? Your budget needs to cover all your basic necessities: food, housing, clothes, basic utilities and health-related costs.

Tip #2: Face your creditors.

Many deal with their creditors by avoiding them or running away from them. Dealing with creditors this way only leads to bigger and more serious problems. If you find yourself having a hard time paying off your debts on time, the best way to deal with it is to contact your creditors right away. Disclose to them your reasons for not being able to pay your debts and ask if they can come up with a revised payment arrangement. It’s important that you let your creditors know that, while you are in debt, you are very willing to pay it off. Face your creditors. Don’t let them reach a point where they pass your situation to a debt collection agency.

Tip #3: Deal with debt collectors.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a federal law clearly stating that debt collectors cannot bug you, give false assertions or do anything that is not fair when they are trying to collect money from you. Read and understand this federal know so you can properly address debt collectors.

Tip #4: Consider credit counseling.

There are groups and institutions that offer credit counseling for those who need help with their financial problems. A good credit counseling organization can help you come up with an improved payment arrangement of your credit card debts. You can present this plan to your creditors for their approval.

Tip #5: File for bankruptcy.

Filing for personal bankruptcy is a last resort to fixing — and the legal way of addressing — your credit card debt. However, keep in mind that if you file for bankruptcy, it will remain in your financial information report for years. Thus, you may find it difficult to get additional credit, buy a house or even get a job with a bankruptcy on your financial information report.

What Do You Do When You Finally Pay Off Your Credit Card Debt?

Word Count:Article Body:
The problem is, it is darn near impossible to live without a credit card or two. Otherwise, how do you buy online, book a flight, or rent a car? You can still use a credit card after you have taken care of your debt, just do so in moderation.

Credit card debt is a very big problem that is being faced by a lot of people who have been irresponsible and undisciplined in the use of their credit card. Though some might have landed up with credit card debt due to some unfortunate event or emergency in their life, most people carry a credit card debt due to their own financial mismanagement.

There are a lot of ways to pay off credit card debt and a lot of people do achieve this feat. Surely, to be able to pay off credit card debt is really a great achievement in itself for not everyone is able to pay off credit card debt. It takes a lot of discipline, restraint, planning and perseverance to finally pay off credit card debt. However, there is more to paying off credit card debt then just being able to pay off your credit card bills.

What happens to your life after you pay off your credit card debt successfully? As mentioned before, of all the people who try to pay off credit card debt not everyone is successful. However, some people fail after they have succeeded in paying off credit card debt. These are those people who let themselves loose and go on a spending spree as soon as they pay off credit card debt.

Soon, these people again end up with a credit card debt and are again trying to pay off a stack of bills. So, its not enough to just pay off credit card debt, its equally important to maintain a debt-free status even after you pay off credit card debt; only then can you enjoy a stress-free life in the world of credit cards.

So learn your lessons well and do not let yourself wander down the path to more credit card debt. Most of the rules that you followed when you were trying to pay off credit card debt, will also hold good after you have paid off your credit card debt.

Here is a quick synopsis of things that you should take care of even after you pay off credit card debt:

1)Do not overspend. Giving in to the sale offers for something that you dont really need, is a big mistake that leads to overspending

2)Always remain within 70% of your credit limit.

3)Make credit card bill payments in time and in full.

4)Dont hold more than 2 credit card accounts (two are enough for anyone)

These are just very basic things you can do to keep your credit under control; you can add more based on your own experience and knowledge.

Credit cards can offer customers the option of a quick solution to financial worries. However, many people who begin using credit cards often find it to be almost addictive. For many people who begin using credit as a means of payment for expenses, credit card debt can become a huge problem. Credit card interest is usually the cause of this. Nave customers who sign up for credit cards and do not have experience with credit cards can be easily coerced into applying for credit cards with high interest rates that will eventually lead to extreme credit card debt.

Credit card debt leads to a number of bankruptcies every year throughout the United States. With so many people falling prey to credit card debt, it must be made easier to eliminate credit card debt. Once credit card debt gets up to a certain point, payments can be huge and it may seem as though you are unable to keep up. This is why it is important to keep your credit card at a manageable rate. Once your credit card debt gets too high your payments will also rise. If you miss payments, credit card interest will cause your credit card debt to climb even if you have not recently used your credit card.

Keeping on top of payments and not using your credit card to an extent to which you will have trouble making payments on time is the ideal way to keep yourself free of credit card debt. If you are already facing a large amount of credit card debt, do not worry, there are ways to eliminate it. If you are like many other people across the United States you may be facing a number of separate credit card payments to make each month.

The best way to face multiple credit card bills is to approach one at a time rather than give yourself a number of bills to try to eliminate at once. It is best to start with the credit card that you owe the least amount of money on because it will be the easiest to pay off. Once you eliminate credit card debt for that credit card you can move on to the next and so on until you are debt free. It is best to limit your spending while paying off your debt and try to make the largest payments you can whenever possible. This will reduce your credit card debt faster than paying the minimum payment each month.

If you limit your spending in other areas you will find that it will become easier to meet your payment deadlines and even, in some cases, be able to make larger payments. However, if you cannot afford to pay more than your minimum monthly payment, settle with paying that habitually and eventually you will find yourself debt-free.

People never prefer to carry around lot of cash with them while they go for shopping or for buying day to day utilities. With the invention of the term plastic money, credit cards become the latest currency in the pockets of the people. This money allows them to spend more than what they can afford, which obviously they have to repay afterwards at the end of the month. But most of the time you forget to repay them or are not capable to pay such times. This in turn affects you credit score negatively. So if you want to get relieved from such troubles you can look forwards towards credit card debt management.

What is a credit card debt management?

We can simply define credit card debt management as the management of our spending through credit cards and repaying them in time. There are lots of reputed consultants in the market which will guide you in getting your expenses on the tracks.

Following are the steps that should be taken from your side for credit card debt management:

Dont use too many credit cards it will only increase the number of debts.
Avoid credit card spending as interest rates are high, instead of that use a debit card.
Make a budget plan according to your income and spend according to it.
Try to do savings for use in bad times to avoid taking debt.
If you are having too many credit card bills to repay, take the help of debt consolidation loans to clear them off.

How does it affect your credit score?

Credit score is highly dependent on how much you owe in form of debts. The more the number and amount of debts i.e. your unpaid credit card bills, lesser your credit score will be. A credit score less than 500 is seen as avoidable score when you are looking for loans and other financial assistance.

Where can I get advice from for credit card debt management?

Credit card debt management agencies are there in the market to get advice on how to control your credit card expenses. These agencies access your financial status, and discuss it with you for preparing your monthly budget. They will also discuss about how much expenses you can afford to make through credit cards. To get benefit from all these services you can either visit these agencies or you can apply on their websites by filling a simple application form.

Credit card debt management not only let your monthly expenses fit into your pocket but also helps in enhancing your credit score.

Debt Management Plans A Way To Survive The Debt And Come On Top

Debt Management Plans

Debt Management Plans (DMP) is placed one step beyond credit counseling and a stone’s throw short of bankruptcy. If you are too deep into debt and unable to pay them, a credit counseling agency may recommend Debt Management Plans. This is a serious step that should be considered carefully along with better money management skills and budgeting disciplines.

Similar to prescription medication that you would only take after consulting a licensed physician, Debt Management Plans should start only after you have talked it over with a certified credit counselor. Your certified credit counselor spends the time to review your financial situation, consider alternatives, and help you learn to handle money better. You want to stay out of debt after you get out of it.

What is Debt Management Plans?

In simple terms, your credit counseling organization begins to manage your debts on your behalf through direct interaction with your creditors. They come between you and most of your unsecured creditors, negotiate lower interest rates, eliminate certain fees, arrange payment amounts and prioritize which creditors gets paid first. In short, almost everything that could be done to get you out of debt fast. These plans cover most unsecured debts, like credit card bills, student loans, and medical bills. But secured debts such as real estate loans fall outside of these plans.

Before signing up with a credit counseling organization for a DMP, verify any concessions your particular creditors offer to that organization. All these concessions from your creditors amount to one thing: Lower your monthly payment and still get out of debt faster. In some cases, you will be able to pay you debts, years earlier. Ask your credit counselor how much earlier you will get out of debt if you stayed on course.

When DMP starts, you agree to send one monthly payment to the credit counseling organization and they in turn make all the payments to your creditors for you. In the meantime, you may have to agree not to use or apply for credit while you are participating in the plan.

Is a Debt Management Plan Right For You?

Cover the following with your credit counselor before you decide to participate in a Debt Management Plan.

Find out if there are other options besides the DMP available to you. Is your DMP handled by the same organization that also provides you assistance with money and budget management during and after DMP? If a Debt Management Plan is handled by one organization and another handles your ongoing credit counseling, how will you coordinate the two? Remember you want to stay out debt later.

Find out how enrolling in a Debt Management Plan impacts your credit and your credit score. Negative and accurate information on your credit record is not easy to remove despite any promises made.

Confirm what your monthly payment amount is and if you can afford it. Do not commit to something you cannot follow through.

Credit counseling organization promises concessions they can get from your creditors, such as lowering or eliminating interest charges and late fees. Confirm these with your creditors and see if there is a waiting period before these concessions kick in or do they start as soon as you enroll in a DMP.

Verify that your creditors are paid within the correct billing cycles and before their required payment due date.

Clarify the steps involved in getting status reports on your account from your credit counseling organization. How often? How detailed? Is it accessible by phone? Any hesitancy on behalf of the credit counseling organization to let you verify your account status is a big red flag that means you need to find another organization to help you.

Find out if your creditors are willing to reset the clock on your past-due accounts, wiping out the record of missed and late payments if you sign up with a Debt Management Plan. This process is called re-aging your account. How many payments should you make before your creditors are willing to do this?

What to do after Debt Management Plan starts?

Once you sign up with a Debt Management Plan continue to be active with the process, even though emotionally, you may want to wash your hands away and stay away. DMP does not relieve you of your responsibilities; it only helps you manage it better.

Keep in touch with your creditors and pay your bills until the DMP goes into effect. If you havent had any negative entries in your credit report by now, any late payments, late and penalties can still be entered into your credit report.

Contact your creditors and confirm that they have accepted the proposed Debt Management Plan before you send any payments to the credit counseling organization for your DMP.

Call each of your creditors on the first of every month to make sure the agency has paid them on time and verify this by checking your monthly statements. Your monthly statement should also reflect any changes in your interest rates, waiving of the late fees and any other concessions you were expecting.

May you be granted freedom from debts both physical and Spiritually.
